Macys @ Roosevelt Field Mall 1/15/13
Around 18:53 hours on 1/16/13 the Westbury FD responded to a report of smoke on the 3rd floor of Macy's,
in the Roosevelt Field Mall.  Engine 969 the first unit on scene, reported a heavy smoke condition to Chief 9601, who was still in route. Engine 968 arrive a short time later, hit a hydrant and connected to standpipe system, as the crew entered the building with high-rise packs. Engine 967 arrived just behind 968 and it's team acted as the 1st truck. Later to arrive on scene: Ladder 963 - Laddered roof, Engine 966 - 2nd line, Heavy Rescue 964 - inside truck teams and Ambulance 961 - staged as medical support. Garden CIty FD, who was mutual aided to handle a Person stuck in an elevators call on Stewart Ave,  arrived on scene upon completion where they stood by to provide relief .

After forcing entry to the elevator shaft, it was learned the fire was racks of clothing inside the freight elevator car and that the fire was extinguished by the fire sprinkler system, with no extenion of fire outside the car itself. After turning off sprinkler system and securing the area, all units we released.  On scene time approx. 90 minutes.
